Data-Driven Prediction of Surgery Times from Clinical and Operational Features

This thesis develops data-driven methods to predict surgery durations using hospital datasets. By applying statistical and machine learning models to clinical and operational features, it aims to improve scheduling accuracy, optimize resource allocation, and reduce delays. A reusable prediction pipeline will provide ongoing, practical support for hospital operations.

Master-Thesis: Soft-Tissue Tension Estimation from Tissue Point Trajectories

In robotic surgery, tension information is critical but very challenging to obtain directly. Visualizing tissue deformation offers a promising way to infer tension indirectly. Recent advances in any-point tracking methods provide an opportunity to bridge the gap between simulation and real-world data, enabling new research directions in surgical robotics.

PiCO2buddies project description

[Bioprocess engineering] Thesis or Internship opportunity: PiCO2buddies – Using Microalgae for wastewater reclamation from pharmaceuticals

Diclofenac (DFC) toxicity in water is a global concern. This project investigates DCF solution behaviour in water under controlled conditions, to predict its availability, speciation and phase transitions in systems where microalgae are used for water remediation. Understanding this is essential for advancing biothermodynamic models that simulate pharmaceutical fate in complex environments.

Master Thesis: Neural Surrogate Models for Biomechanical Forces in the Spine

Accurately determining biomechanical forces in the spine is essential for many medical applications. Current approaches rely on complex multi-body simulations [1] that are computationally demanding. In this thesis, you will investigate neural surrogate models trained on large synthetic datasets to predict biomechanical forces from CT images. The aim is to achieve accurate and fast predictions that can make these methods applicable in clinical workflows.

Master thesis in urban ecology in collaboration with Université d'Angers France

Our close collaborators at the University of Angers in western France offer this master's thesis titled "Modeling the impact of traffic on the ecological connectivity of the home range of common birds in urban environments". The main part of the thesis would be conducted in France - this has the advantage that there is a recompensation of 640 € per month. On top, there is funding available to also travel to Freising and conduct some research at the Chair of Terrestrial Ecology.
