Measurement of Transpiration in Deciduous Tree Species (Thesis for Bachelor and Master, or Project Work))

16.05.2025, Diplomarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

Trees are an important part of the hydraulic cycle, measuring and comparing the transpiration helps in characterizing spiecies and building models. .

Measurement of Transpiration in Various Deciduous Tree Species Using Two Porometers (LI-600 by LI-COR Environmental GmbH and SC-1 by METER Group)

Task:
Measurement of transpiration in selected tree species (native and exotic) on the Weihenstephan campus. The daily course of transpiration should be recorded with both devices on several days over a period of two weeks (or up to three months). At the same time, sensors for soil moisture and air tempera-ture/humidity will be installed on the trees to continuously collect environmental data.

Objectives:
• Characterization of tree species and crown sections based on their transpiration behavior in relation to weather conditions and soil moisture.
• Comparison of the two measurement devices: accuracy and precision, conversion and interpretation of measured values.

Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of R
• Regular presence on campus during the measurement period (2 weeks – 3 months during the vegetation period)
• A steady hand and endurance doing the fieldwork.
Start:
As of now or by arrangement during the 2025 vegetation period
