The Chair of Metabolic Programming in Weihenstephan is looking for a student assistant to support the laboratory at the earliest possible date.

Filament-based melt electrowriting (F-MEW) is an adaptation of conventional melt electrowriting (MEW). MEW has evolved into a high-resolution additive manufacturing (AM) technology for fabricating freely designed high-resolution scaffolds, opening new opportunities for tissue engineering. To fabricate microstructured scaffolds, we employ an AM ecosystem. By modifying a conventional fused filament fabrication (FFF) printer, we can create patterns from fibers at the micrometer scale. Yet, the printer can operate like a conventional FFF printer.

Teleoperation enables the user to manipulate objects from a remote location. Several applications have been around for decades – in space, aerospace, maritime, and medicine. The Chair of Computational Modeling and Simulation is looking for one student or research assistant to support the Environment Mapping Module of the INTREPID project. The first task consists of making yourself familiar with a LiDAR-Inertial Odometry and Mapping system. Here, besides calibrating the sensors you will implement state-of-the-art SLAM algorithms, and will contribute to developing a pipeline that finds the ground truth positions of the sensors.

For the development of a new AI module for non-technical students the professorship for Cyber-physical Systems is looking for a HiWi.

Cities will be particularly affected by the impacts of climate change, e.g. due to heavy precipitation or longer periods of heat. In this context, urban green spaces including trees, park areas and forests will gain enormously in importance in several respects. Depending on their vegetation structure and size, these green spaces have different biophysical effects and contribute, among other things, to temperature equalization. In recent years, the urban ecological importance of urban green spaces has been increasingly linked to aspects of biodiversity and sustainable urban climate adaptation, as well as to the health of people in the city, whose demand for recreation in urban green spaces is increasing. Urban green space has the potential to mitigate different impacts of climate change in cities, contributing directly and indirectly to the health of residents. The StOasenWandel project focuses on the social-ecological, health- and climate-related importance of small green spaces: urban oases. The importance of size and structure will be investigated in terms of micrometeorological and health factors. The aim of the project is to investigate which effects urban oases can have on the immediate environment and human health and which vegetation structures turn out to be beneficial for preventive health care and the measured and perceived microclimate within urban oases. The project also intends to derive target-oriented recommendations for action for the future development of green spaces in cities on the basis of the results.

Vertical farming has emerged during the last decade as a way to grow food in a completely controlled environment. The big challenge is to decrease the very high energy demand for lighting and air conditioning. The goal of the thesis is to develop an optimal control method that is able to minimize the energy demand of a vertical farming system while at the same time maximizing the yield.
