Writing Fellow (m/w/d) for the TUM English Writing Center

As a Writing Fellow, you will work one-on-one with TUM students to improve their academic writing in English. Fellows work approximately 6 hours per week on the TUM campuses in Munich, Garching, or Weihenstephan, with an opportunity to increase the hours in subsequent semesters.

The English Writing Center forms part of the TUM Language Center, which is a central service provider at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The TUM Language Center offers TUM students and staff 17 different languages in three locations: Munich, Garching and Weihenstephan. The English Writing Center offers TUM students one-to-one consultations on writing, be it academic texts like theses and articles for publication, application writing or written assignments from the English courses offered at the TUM Language Center. The consultations are collaborative and aim to impart knowledge of good writing practices, editing and proofreading skills. 

What tasks will you perform?

As a Writing Fellow, you will work one-on-one with TUM students to improve their academic writing in English. Students bring to their appointments up to 5 pages of a text they are currently writing. It might be a section of a thesis or article, an essay or homework assignment, a CV or cover letter, or any other English text. You will work through the text together with them, identifying their recurrent mistakes and offering strategies for improving their English writing in the long term. Fellows work approximately 6 hours per week on the TUM campuses in Munich, Garching, or Weihenstephan, with an opportunity to increase the hours in subsequent semesters.

 Your profile:

  • native English speaker (or native-level fluency)
  • bachelor’s or master’s student at TUM
  • ability to work for at least one academic yea
  • exceptional experience & skill in academic writing and/or editin
  • solid knowledge of English grammar and styl
  • a strong desire to improve your own writing and editing skill
  • familiarity with foreign languages is a plus
