Comparison of human longevity trials (BSc Thesis)

17.11.2025, Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

Animal studies have shown that several interventions, including caloric restriction, rapamycin, and taurine supplementation, can extend lifespan and delay age-related decline. In such studies, animals are treated with a longevity-promoting intervention or control condition, and outcomes are assessed using Kaplan–Meier survival curves.

The key challenge now is to determine whether these longevity interventions also influence human ageing and longevity. Because of the long human lifespan, direct survival analyses are impractical, and researchers must instead rely on biomarkers of ageing, such as DNA methylation clocks or physiological ageing indices. The aim of this thesis is to identify and summarise planned, ongoing, and published clinical trials that investigate longevity interventions in humans, thereby providing an overview of the current progress and future directions in translational ageing research.
