Research internship - Creation of a promoter database for *Bacillus subtilis*
28.07.2025, Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten
This research internship focuses on building a comprehensive promoter database for Bacillus subtilis. Candidates will identify and analyze strong promoters based on literature and SubtiWiki, assess their suitability for recombinant protein expression, and evaluate potential tandem promoter combinations. The project supports the development of next-generation microbial production systems for sustainable agriculture.
Tasks
• Research of strong promoters in Bacillus subtilis (via SubtiWiki & scientific literature)
• Structured documentation: sequence, activity, titer, references, and relevant features
• Evaluation of promoter suitability for recombinant protein expression
• Identification of potential tandem promoter combinations to enhance expression
Requirements
• You work independently, in a structured and reliable manner
• You are open-minded and communicative
• You have good English skills (written and spoken)
We Offer
• The opportunity to gain insights into the field of precision fermentation
• Exciting and self-directed tasks
• A respectful and collaborative working environment
• Flexible working hours and the possibility of partially remote work by arrangement
In addition, this internship may lead to a Bachelor's or Master's thesis project.
About Us
The Professorship of Cellular Agriculture (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marius Henkel) was established in September 2022.
Our main focus is the development of biotechnological processes and concepts for the alternative production of agricultural products. In doing so, we specifically address environmental impacts, animal welfare concerns, and sustainability issues associated with conventional livestock farming.
