Bachelor Thesis: Investigate Auditory Cues in Motor Learning using a Robotic Manipulandum

01.05.2025, Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

Background

If we try to learn two opposing motor tasks at the same time with no information to distinguish between them, we cannot learn any of these two. It was shown that we can learn these opposing tasks with the help of contextual cues that are specific to each one. Interestingly, not any contextual cue can help to reduce the interference between both tasks and some work better than others. In this experiment, we want to investigate a novel cue that is auditory and check if this cue enables us to learn the opposing tasks.

Your tasks

With this thesis I want to offer an approach to learn the process of conducting a scientific study. Therefore, I want you to dive into literature about the topic, collect data with participants, analyze this data and write a manuscript.

Expectations

Background knowledge in motor learning is advantageous but not a prerequisite.

Advantages

Working on a relevant topic in the research area of motor control and learning. Regular meetings (at least every two weeks). I will supervise the data collection and introduce you slowly into leading it. I will pre-process the data for easy analysis.

Time plan

The start of the thesis can be quite flexible, but it can be started immediately if wanted.

Contact

If you are interested, send me an email with a short background about yourself.

Important information

The experiments are conducted at the TUM Campus in Olympic Park. Attendance for data collection and introduction to the system is necessary and needs to be around 10 times during the period of the thesis.
