Forschungsproject and thesis options in insect ecology

26.04.2025, Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

We are offering the possibility of doing a research project on insect ecology, emphasizing the effects of land use intensity and heterogeneity or landscape components on insect diversity. During this project you will learn to carry out labwork and statistical analysis and communication in the area of ecology of invertebrates, working with fascinating insects from grasslands in a collaborative project. There is also the opportunity to do outreach and knowledge transfer within the project. You can check the project websites to see if this is something you would like to be part of:

https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/trophniche
https://www.biodiversity-exploratories.de/en/projects/auswirkungen-der-landnutzung-auf-die-variation-trophischer-nischen-ueber-taxonomische-gruppen-und-trophische-ebenen-eines-nahrungsnetzes/

In this practical course, you aim to show your independence in scientific work, yet you will be guided and have all the support you need. The project requires 300 hours of fieldwork, labwork, and independent study, which can be flexible and run on your own schedule throughout the year. For the successful completion of the project, you receive 10 credits for your study program. The project can also lead to a thesis (bachelor's/master's).

For the next run, you can sign up from end of April on. Please get in touch with us for more information if you are interested. Note that this is only an offer for TUM students in the Life Sciences Department, and you should contact your student advisor if your master's program is from another department. Please avoid using AI for contact emails (AI written requests will not be answered).

Looking forward to your contact :)
