Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Internships

12.01.2025, Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

Requirements are as follows: Show great motivation to understand nature better, particularly plant-insect interactions and ecology; take
great responsibility for your work, and be reliable. We offer a pleasant working environment, with plenty of opportunities to learn new things, flexibility to cope with your studies/job and get certified for your achievements.

Project 1: Plant and litter stable isotopes under land use intensity: We will process samples taken from plants in different agricultural and forest settings where the management and land use intensity are different. After processing the samples in a unique mill, we will prepare them for stable isotope analysis and, with the help of a technician, obtain the nitrogen and carbon
isotope content in the samples. We will analyze that content to determine whether there are significant differences among our sites.

Project 2: Insect diversity along land use gradients: We collected samples from different fields in a land use intensity and currently identify them using taxonomical keys under the microscope. In this project, you will learn a great deal about different existing organisms, how to determine them, and how to count them. The main question to address is whether there are differences in richness and abundance among land use management in grasslands.

Project 3: Forest flying insect diversity: We collected flying insects using window traps in numerous forests that differ in management and canopy type. We will determine those insects taxonomically and define the forest insect community. For the analysis, we can complement with existing data on crawling insects.

There are more project ideas available, but this is a summary of the ones you can start right away. If you are interested in any of the projects or also have your own ideas, please contact: Dr Alejandra Parreno (Alejandra.parreno@tum.de) with your CV and a letter of intention.

Looking forward to your contact!
