Master thesis - Immune Cell Dynamics in Porcine Tonsil Organoids

30.10.2024, Diplomarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

The chair of Infection Pathogenesis (Prof. Friederike Ebner) aims to understand immunity and immune evasion strategies of parasites, with the aim of developing intervention strategies and vaccines. In this master’s thesis, the student will be participating in developing porcine tonsil organoids for immunogenicity testing.

Responsibilities: The student will work on the isolation and cultivation of leukocytes from porcine tonsils, optimize tonsil organoid formation, and use tonsil organoids to test immune cell dynamics, focusing on germinal center responses to different parasitic antigens. The candidate will gain experience in immunofluorescence microscopy, primary cell culture methods, cell separation and flow cytometry.

Requirements: We seek a highly motivated, structured, and reliable student of MBT, Biology, Biochemistry or similar disciplines. A successful candidate should already have a good knowledge of immunology and some experience in cell culture. A good command of English, both spoken and written, is essential.

Throughout this project, the student will gain invaluable insights into porcine immunology and the development of organoid-based test systems. They will enjoy our enthusiastic team and the assurance of supervision and support, ensuring a rewarding and enriching research experience with lots of things to learn.
