Bachelor- and Master Thesis: The applications of computational fluid dynamics and artificial intelligence techniques in baking industry

The Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology is offering the following MSc Thesis or project work to students interested in Physics, Applied Mathematics and Machine Learning

Optimization of baking systems is subject to improvements of many factors involved in oven’s design like; air circulation, heat transfer mechanisms and internal configurations. Numerical approach enables us to have a better understanding of phenomenon happening in baking and baking environment, accordingly aid the better design of ovens.

Our research mainly focuses on two branches, conventional numerical methods of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and optimization via artificial intelligence. The former includes simulation of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer inside both oven enclosure and baked products. The latter concerns machine-learning techniques applied to the fluid mechanics and optimization problems.

our topics are best-suited for master and bachelor thesis or graded project in a degree program offered by the center for Mathematics or the degree program Informatics, but we will consider students from other programs/departments as well, in case of a good match.



* Requirements:

1- Good knowledge of fluid dynamics or data science
2- Experience in working with commercial tools, e.g. Ansys Fluent, SolidWorks Or programming with Python.
3- English proficiency both spoken and written.
