Master Thesis / Research Internship: Quantifying urban greenhouse gas emissions through atmospheric inverse modeling

The Professorship of Environmental Sensing and Modeling offers a Master Thesis on the determination of urban greenhouse gas emissions. The basis for this is the continuous column measurements by our monitoring net-work MUCCnet over the urban area of Munich. The quantification is then based on an inverse modeling of our atmosphere to consider the transport of greenhouse gases to the measurement instruments.

Your tasks

  • Get to know our existing framework for emission assessment based on Bayesian Inversion
  • Development of new modeling concepts for the enhancement of the framework and improvement of the accuracy
  • Generation of synthetic measurement data to build a “test bench” for the framework
Your profile
  • Understanding of physical fundamentals
  • Interest in meteorological physics and fun in modeling
  • Mathematical background recommended
