Founded in 2019, the new Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing at Technical University of Munich teaches and researches in the promising field of additive manufacturing of metallic structures. The main focus is on developing and characterizing metallic high-performance materials for/through additive technologies by means of experiments and computer aided methods.
Qualifications and Experience • Outstanding academic degree in materials science, metallurgy, metal physics or similar degree • Excellent doctorate with focus on computational materials science • Extensive knowledge of computer-based modelling and simulation methods in materials science of metals, e. g. Calphad method, precipitation simulation, cellular automata, kinetic Monte Carlo, multi-phase field models and similar • Preferably knowledge in welding and additive manufacturing • Preferably knowledge in data-driven methods in materials science • Interest in project management and the management of research projects • Experience in leading research teams • Experience in handling research proposals and grant writing • Highly motivated to establish an own research group in cooperation with the chair holder and the entire team with the greatest possible freedom • Excellent English language skills • Scientific curiosity and result-oriented, creative, and independent working methods Tasks and Job Description • Development of a research concept for implementing computational methods in welding and additive manufacturing to design new alloys and determine microstructures and properties • Close cooperation with the processing, testing and characterization research groups • Development and formulation of research proposals for acquisition of research funds • Establishment of an own research group • Publication of research results in leading scientific journals • Representation of the chair in association meetings, at conferences, and conventions • Development of academic teaching and mentoring students • Support of colleagues in their doctoral work • General tasks in terms of chair management and operation Our Offers • Excellent chance for an upcoming scientist to further develop the career • Numerous benefits of one of the leading universities in Europe • Exciting research and working environment in a dedicated team • Great opportunity to contribute to the successful development of the chair • Autonomous work with greatest flexibility • Support in the development of a habilitation (venia docendi) • Full-time position, initially limited to three years, extension is planned • Employment with remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L) Application If you are interested in working in our team, please send us your detailed application by e-mail (pdf) / postal service by September 16th 2020.
