“Scale-up of Lithium Ion Battery Electrodes & Analysis of Performance/Life Limiting Processes” We are currently seeking a new colleague for the BMBF funded project ExZellTUM II (www.exzelltum.de), which is a joint project between the Chair of Technical Electrochemistry (Chemistry Department), the Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management (Mechanical Engineering Department), the Chair of Electrical Energy Storage (Electrical Engineering Department), and the Neutron source FRM II at Technical University of Munich. The position is in the subgroup at the Chair of Technical Electrochemistry under supervision of Prof. Hubert Gasteiger. ExZellTUM II examines the entire production chain of Lithium Ion Battery manufacturing, from designing electrodes, characterizing their electrochemical performance, all the way to designing and testing of large-format battery cells. Goal is the investigation of silicon anodes and high voltage cathodes in Lithium Ion Batteries as well as the optimization of all manufacturing steps. Topic/Method: - Your tasks include the investigation of mixing processes of active material slurries and the fabrication of laboratory cells. - Characterization of performance limiting phenomena by AC impedance and in-situ diagnostic methods (X-ray absorption spectroscopy, neutron based methods, XRD). - Scale-up from laboratory cells to larger format cell designs will be important for industrial applications of Lithium Ion Batteries, therefore you will investigate possibilities to transfer production steps from laboratory to pilot applications. Your profile: - Above average master degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or similar and received PhD degree in one of the above mentioned fields. - Experience in the field of electrochemistry, especially Lithium Ion Battery research, is advantageous but not necessarily mandatory. - High motivation, ability to work in a team and self-reliant working style. From Modelling & Simulation to Process Optimization (Keywords: Industry 4.0, Digital Twin, Modelling, Simulation, Hybrid Modelling, Downstream Processing, Smart Systems)

CONTEXT: Augmented Reality as one of the leading technologies to enrichen real life with contextual, relevant background information provides useful areas of application. While there are possibilities in various domains, technologies such as the Microsoft HoloLens have not been used to their full potential. With Augmented Reality, completely new application areas arise. For example, service technicians or nurses can interact hands-free while receiving up-to-date information via their Smart Glass. However, organizations are challenged in terms of the actual use of smart glasses. We offer a variety of Augmented Reality related topics in the domains of maintenance and health care: • Conduct an experiment with an existing smart glass application and analyze the resulting data • Conduct and analyze qualitative evaluations for existing applications • Implement a serious game designed to train health care workers at disinfection procedures • Implement prototypical Augmented Reality applications to support maintenance or health care processes • Method engineering: Develop a digitization method for assistive technologies based on a literature review about existing methods and context-specific requirements • Evaluate existing modeling languages (e.g. BPMN or UML) for flexible service processes • Build an innovation toolbox by identifying and ordering creativity techniques TASKS: Depending on your topic, you will perform one or several of the following tasks: • Literature and field research in health care and maintenance • Conduct and Evaluate qualitative interviews • Iterative development of a smart glass or android application • Conduct field and laboratory studies to evaluate prototypes • Sum up implications for theory and practice REQUIREMENTS This study can be conducted as Bachelor- or Masterthesis, Interdisciplinary Project or similar formats. Theses can either be written in English or German. This study suits candidates studying Games Engineering, Informatics, Information Systems, TUM-BWL and Psychology.
