Student Assistant (f/m/d) Unity & User Experience – Demystify Project

12.10.2026, Studentische Hilfskräfte, Praktikantenstellen, Studienarbeiten

The position is based at the TUM Think Tank at the Hochschule für Politik München. The TUM Think Tank was founded in 2022 to strengthen mutual exchange and knowledge transfer between the university and society, business and politics.

Its mission includes creating spaces for dialogue, learning and experimentation in which actors from academia, business, civil society and politics work collaboratively on the central challenges of our time and develop forward-looking solutions. In doing so, we always ask a double question: (i) how can technologies be designed in a democratic, responsible and human-centred way, and (ii) how can technologies be used so that they serve the good of society.

Have you already built your own projects in Unity, and do you enjoy it when something not only works but also feels good to use? Do you like testing, finding bugs before users do, and documenting improvements so that others can follow them? Then this is the right place for you. For our project Demystify – an interactive, AI-supported learning platform in which an honest AI companion called Marvin guides teenagers and adults through topics around artificial intelligence – we are looking for a committed student assistant (f/m/d) to stabilise the existing prototype, develop it further for the browser and make it better step by step.

Your responsibilities

  • Further development and stabilisation of the existing Unity prototype: bug fixing, performance and browser compatibility of the WebGL version
  • Adapting existing VR content for the web version: third-person view, controls and menu navigation
  • Improving the UI and user guidance: onboarding, navigation, feedback and animations
  • Contributing to the quality of the AI dialogues: testing and refining the prompts of our AI companion Marvin
  • Running and documenting test sessions, including a structured list of bugs and improvements
  • Supporting deployment and version management (staging and production environments, Git)

What we are looking for

You are studying for a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant subject such as computer science, games engineering, media informatics, electrical engineering and information technology or a related field – or you taught yourself and can show your skills through your own projects. You work confidently with Unity and C# and have ideally already shipped a WebGL build. Working with Git is second nature to you. You work independently, reliably and carefully, you document your work so that others can follow it, and you have an eye for how an application feels to the people using it. Experience with LLM interfaces, prompting or speech input and output is a plus, but not a requirement. You have a confident command of German or English and a good command of the other.

What we offer

We offer you an attractive and varied role with excellent working conditions in a lively academic environment that is highly diverse and challenging.

You can expect an open and friendly working atmosphere in a small, highly motivated team, an agile mindset and a positive error culture, room for individual development, and meaningful work with an impact on society.

The workplace, with modern co-working facilities at the Hochschule für Politik München, is centrally located directly at Königsplatz in Munich with an underground connection. Your working hours can be arranged flexibly in consultation with the management of the TUM Think Tank. Mobile working is possible within the framework of the internal guidelines.

Application

If we have sparked your interest, please send your application (including a letter of motivation, your current CV, references and two relevant work samples such as a GitHub repository, a playable build or a short video of one of your own projects, your earliest possible start date and the number of hours per week you are looking for) by 20th of October at the latest, preferably by e-mail with the subject line “Student Assistant Demystify - Unity & User Experience” to philip.pfaller@hfp.tum.de .

The position is suitable for candidates with severe disabilities. Applicants with severe disabilities (f/m/d) will be given preference if they are otherwise essentially equally qualified, capable and professionally competent. The Hochschule für Politik München seeks to increase the proportion of women. Applications from women are therefore expressly welcome.
