The Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum is looking for a student for an internship, practical semester or BSc Thesis working on NEPOMUC.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) operates the research neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) in Garching near Munich, which is one of the most powerful and modern neutron sources. The leading position in science in the field of research with neutrons is achieved by a cooperation between the TUM and the Forschungszentrum Jülich and Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon under the name Heinz Maier- Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ).

Our facility is home to NEPOMUC, the world’s most intense antimatter beam and a unique tool for material defect studies, surface investigation and fundamental research in quantum physics.

The NEPOMUC group sizes around 20 people working inside of a large scale facility. In this environment we operate as a team composed of people with a highly multidisciplinary skillset, ranging from high to low level coding, numerical simulation, mechanical and electronic engineering, cryogenic and ultra-high-vacuum technology, material science and chemistry to cite a few. We seek and train students willing to develop their knowledge and skills over the widest set of disciplines.

If you are a top student from any course of studies who holds a personal interest in gaining a deeper knowledge in any field related to Physics, Electronics or Informatics, and in particular if your career plan would not traditionally offer you the opportunity to do so, we invite you to contact us to compare your desires with our needs. Shall we find a match between the two, we’ll offer you a specifically tailored internship or thesis, which will include private tutoring on the subjects of your choice.

This being an open call, the details of your thesis/internship will be discussed based on the specific proposal. We can nonetheless anticipate that we’ll provide you with thorough guidance and tutoring, as our gropus attaches a particular importance to the training aspect of internships. In addition to your project’s specific disciplines, you will also gain an insight into many of the technologies involved in the operation of a large scientific device and benefit from the contact with the brilliant and enthusiast environment that is the NEPOMUC community.
