About the Project
The Chair of Cartography and Visual Analytics at the Technical University of Munich is offering a student assistant (HiWi) position to support ongoing interdisciplinary research related to climate communication, social media, and digital tool development. The position involves working on the development of social media platforms, websites, and browser extensions that address cognitive aspects of online climate information.
What We're Looking For
- Experience with front-end development, especially using React and TypeScript
- Knowledge of browser extension development or interest in learning it
- Familiarity with integrating APIs or AI/LLM services (e.g., OpenAI API)
- Basic understanding of UI/UX design principles and user-centered development
- Strong interest in digital communication, climate-related topics, or human-computer interaction
Key Responsibilities and Your Tasks
- Develop and maintain web-based tools and interfaces for interactive user experiences
- Implement visual elements on social media platform, such as alerts and pop-ups components
- Create or assist in building a browser extension for detecting and displaying content-based cues
Application Requirements
- Enrollment at TUM, preferably in Computer Science, HCI, or related fields
- Previous experience in web development (e.g., coursework, personal projects, GitHub portfolio)
- Good written and spoken English communication skills
What We Offer
We offer flexible working hours (approx. 8–10 hours/week), the opportunity to contribute to an interdisciplinary and high-impact research project, and the potential for involvement in academic publications or user studies. There is also the potential to further develop this work into a Master's thesis in coordination with the research team.
