CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: MASTER THESIS (m/w/d)

The Chair of Werner Siemens for Synthetic Biotechnology at the Department of Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich in Garching has an opening for a Master Thesis position Machine Learning-guided and automated media optimization

Microbial oils have been extensively investigated as a renewable platform for biofuel and oleochemical production. This project focuses on leveraging machine learning, specifically multi-objective Bayesian Optimization, in combination with lab automation to streamline the media optimization process for C. oleaginosus cultivation.


Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Media and stocks solutions preparation
- Lab-scale cultivation (1-50 mL)
- Weekly cleaning sequence and set up the liquid handling station to run established protocols
- Monitor the progress and validity of the computational process
- Determine the sensitivity of the BO process (first and second order effects)


Requirements:

Suitable candidates should have strong background in yeast cultivation techniques, as well as coding using Google Colab and scientific writing. Suitable candidates have a Bachelor in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent fields. High team spirit and communication skills, and a high level of self motivation are key to accomplish the set tasks. Please note that email applications should reference DAWAD3 in the Subject line.
