HiWi: Scientific Public Data Management, Simulation, and Web Application Development
09.01.2025, Studentische Hilfskräfte, Praktikantenstellen, Studienarbeiten
The Dark Matter Data Center, part of the ORIGINS Excellence Cluster, is a unified platform for publishing public data, workflows, and related information from Dark Matter research, facilitating Open Science.
This position entails a structured project divided into distinct phases. Initially, the HiWi will focus on web development and data staging, enhancing the platform's frontend and integrating features with the backend server and repositories. In later phases, the work will shift to constructing public likelihoods for global exclusions on Dark Matter hypotheses and designing a web application to make these results accessible to the scientific community and the public.
The candidate needs to be comfortable with communicating in English.
Your Area of Responsibility:
- Frontend and Backend Development:
- Enhance the web interface for improved usability and feature additions.
- Integrate features with the web-server (linux, SUSE) and GitLab data repository.
- Simulation and Data Analysis:
- Simulating Direct Search rates for experiments with public data.
- Build public likelihoods and derive global exclusions on Dark Matter hypotheses.
- Application Development:
- Design and implement a web application to make simulation results accessible to the public.
Your Requirement Profile:
- Enrolment in a Master’s program in Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in C++, Python. Experience with Julia is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with Linux/Bash.
- Familiarity with web development, including frontend and backend technologies.
- Familiarity with GitLab and version control systems.
- Knowledge of Bayesian statistical methods and/or particle physics is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently within a collaborative project.
Our Offer:
- 6-10hrs/week.
- Flexible hours to accommodate your academic commitments.
- Opportunity to contribute to a high-profile research project in Dark Matter physics.
- Opportunity to be creative with building an Open Data platform grounds-up.
- Gain hands-on experience with real-world scientific data management and analysis.
