Understanding Social Media Content Dynamics Among Young Adults

Responsible Technology Hub: Research Assistant & Internship Opportunities

Our interdisciplinary research project investigates how social media platforms, particularly TikTok, influence the type of content young adults are exposed to, with a special focus on content dynamics and user engagement. We are looking for motivated Master’s students to join our team as research assistants (studentische Hilfskräfte) or research interns (Practice Project/Praxisprojekt) to support various aspects of the project.

We offer opportunities in the following areas:

Study Recruitment & Participant Handling:

- Involvement in recruiting young adult participants for the study.
- Handling participant communication, scheduling, and consent processes.
- Managing data collection from participants and assisting in organizing focus group discussions.
- Ideal for students with a background in social sciences, psychology, or communication studies who have prior experience in participant management or social science research.

Technical Development:

- Supporting the development of a platform for content submission from participants.
- Assisting in website development for participant interaction and data submission.
- Ideal for students with a background in computer science, data science, or engineering who have experience with web development, programming, or platform development.

Data Analysis & Computational Methods:

- Assisting in the first computational analysis of user data, including interactions and content patterns.
- Conducting text- and video-as-data analysis, building models, or developing data visualization strategies.
- Ideal for students with a technical or computational background interested in applying data science techniques to social media research.

Requirements:

- Solid research experience through previous work at research chairs or related projects is highly valued.
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary research and willingness to contribute to a dynamic, collaborative research team.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively.
