Are you interested in governance and urban nature? Do you want to help make cities both sustainable and equitable? We're looking for a student assistant to join our team starting from September 1, 2024, to support the JUSTNature project [justnatureproject.eu].
As part of the project, we are leading qualitative practice-based research on co-governance, analyzing the institutions, policies, politics, and actors involved in green space development across Belgium, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, and Malta. Our goal is to develop more effective and socially just processes and outcomes, in connection with implementing temporary urban greening on the ground. If you're excited about contributing to meaningful research and practical solutions, we'd love to hear from you!

WHAT YOU'RE GONNA DO
This role is dynamic and diverse, and your tasks, depending on your skills and interests, may include:
Supporting qualitative research, including interviews and/or surveys with local stakeholders in Munich (e.g. survey design, transcription, translation [EN-DE and DE-EN], data analysis).
Supporting German language workshops with local stakeholders in the City of Munich (e.g. logistics, moderation of table discussions, and/or documentation).
Ad hoc research into and analysis of case studies.
Developing visual materials to support interactive workshops, both online and in person (e.g. online whiteboards, slide shows) and to convey research findings to a wider public (e.g. flyers, fact sheets, slide shows).

ABOUT YOU
Essential
– Background in a relevant field such as landscape architecture and planning, geography, environmental management, urban planning, urban design, sociology or a related field.
– Interest in learning about the governance of nature-based solutions, particularly in the EU context.
– Excellent command of written and spoken English and German.
– Collaborative attitude while able to take responsibility for your tasks.
– Careful to complete work to a high standard, with attention to detail.
– Enrollment as a student for at least 6 months from September 1, 2024, ideally longer. We’re interested in a longer-term collaboration with the right person!

Desirable
– Graphic design skills (e.g. using Affinity, Adobe Suite, Canva, Miro).
– Experience collecting and/or analysing qualitative data.
– Experience writing for academic or general audiences in English or German.

HOW TO APPLY
Please email your application (CV and a maximum 1-page cover letter outlining your skills and interest, in English or German) by July 16, 2024, to liza.fakirova@tum.de. We plan to conduct interviews in the week 22 - 26 July.
