Development of Computer Vision module for environment perception and motion planning (Hiwi, Research Internship)

02.05.2024, Studentische Hilfskräfte, Praktikantenstellen, Studienarbeiten

Vision is a core component of today’s autonomous robots systems, enabling the robot to have a perception of the environment and interact with it. The main focus of this work is to create the vision pipeline for an assistive-robotics platform that will enable people with disabilities to perform activities of daily living.

Vision is a core component of today’s autonomous robots systems, enabling the robot to have a perception of the environment and interact with it. The main focus of this work is to create the vision pipeline for an assistive-robotics platform that will enable people with disabilities to perform activities of daily living.

The main parts of the vision module are:
- Scene segmentation
- Object pose recognition and estimation
- Calibration of multi-camera setup

In this work, you will have the opportunity to work in state-of-the-art lab facilities of MIRMI, equipped with robots, data acquisition systems (EEG, EMG, motion capture etc), and mechanical/electrical workshops. To be excited and passionate about the research is a fundamental prerequisite. Furthermore, the possibility to write papers for high-impact conferences is an added plus.

Prerequisites
- Strong background in the field of Computer Vision (scene segmentation, pose estimation)
- Experience with established vision frameworks
- Good Python programming skills
- Good understanding of coordinate frames and 3D transformations

Helpful but not required
- Knowledge on the state of the art methods for scene segmentation, pose estimation.
- Experience with ROS2
- Good C++ experience
- Experience with robot manipulators (simulation or real robot)
- Programming for real-time systems
- Deep Learning

Position
Current project is targeted as HiWi position (paid position). If you are interested in a research internship project or semester thesis with the same focus (not paid position), feel encouraged to apply as well.
