HiWi: Development of a CAN bootloader for OTA updates of an embedded system

08.09.2020, Studentische Hilfskräfte, Praktikantenstellen, Studienarbeiten

EES is looking for a new HiWi

Background:

We are a young technology start-up (spin-off) and develop measurement devices for the battery production. You have the chance to develop innovative solutions in the area of lithium ion batteries.

Task:

Our measurement devices consist of several electronic components. Each node is equipped with STM32 microcontroller, which runs board specific firmware. All nodes communicate via CAN Bus and a Raspberry Pi implements overall control tasks. Instead of programming each node over a physical programming interface, a CAN bootloader hast to be developed. The scope of this work includes the following work packages.

  • Implementation of the CAN bootloader on STM32
  • Implementation of an targeted flashing within a distributed network of nodes
  • Development of a web based app for firmware deployment

Requirements:

  • Independent and responsible way of working
  • Good OOP skills (Python, etc.)
  • Experience with web based UI frameworks
  • Good embedded programming skills
  • Experience with CAN bus communication
