Industry Internship: Design of advanced helicopter approach and departure routes

Industry Internship at Airbus Helicopters, Donauwörth

Procedures flown under instrument flight rules (IFR) relying on GNSS and cockpit instruments are able to precisely steer the helicopter along the desired flight path. In comparison with flying visually, IFR minimizes human error and enhances safety and availability of helicopters in critical missions, for instance in low visibility conditions.

The main tasks of the internship are:
- Build knowledge about construction of IFR flight procedures in accordance with established criteria
- Apply geometrical concepts to design new approach and departure procedures to Donauwörth heliport
- Encode the new procedures using industry software standards (ARINC 424) for use in the helicopter flight management system and an autopilot during experimental flight test campaigns


You offer:

- Enrolled student (d/f/m) in the field of engineering
- Basic background in geodesy, aviation and programming is expected
- Understanding of air traffic management (ATM) concepts is desirable
- High motivation and independently, proactive way of working
- Fluent in English and German

The candidate will be given an opportunity to pursue a final-year thesis in direct connection and upon successful completion of this internship.
