Master thesis or research project on land use change effects on biodiversity of insect communities
29.01.2025, Diplomarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten
We are looking for a motivated student with an interest in learning the taxonomical identification of arthropods for a study on agriculture effects on insect communities.
Through forests and grasslands we collected hundreds of beautiful insects, spiders, snails and worms. They tell the story of a land under human pressure and the spaces where they take refuge. Using taxonomical identification, GIS and stable isotope analysis we reconstruct these stories and the interactions between them. Do you want to be part of this quest?
Requirements:
- Responsibility, attention to detail, time, motivation
- Being a student at LMU or TUM, and doing the thesis by coming in person several times a week in the campus Freising.
- Being part of a master´s program that allows you to do a thesis or practical in areas related to ecology, environment, sustainability, etc.
- No knowledge prior is required - just the will to dedicate time and effort to get trained.
What we offer:
- Training in taxonomical identification and microscopy (useful for jobs in ecology, curation, forestry, etc)
- Books, space and tools for sorting
- Certification and training in tools you want to use
- Flexibility to define your own research questions within this topic
- Possibility to get first-hand information on HIWI offers on this area
- Possibility to participate in outreach
- Inclusion in papers and further publications
- A great working group and social atmosphere
