Design and imlementation of a vehicle based enviromental recording system

19.07.2024, Diplomarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

The CeCaS project seeks bachelor and master thesis students to design and implement a vehicle-based environmental recording system. Students will write their thesis with us, focusing on tasks such as setting up sensor technology, researching state-of-the-art recording methods, developing and integrating novel solutions, and creating a digital twin from real vehicle data. Requirements include knowledge in sensors, Python and an interest in environmental data recording and digital twin technology.

Background

As part of the research project CeCaS, a group has come together to build a new System Architecture for future vehicles with a focus on autonomous driving. The development of new autonomous vehicles requires rethinking systems and software engineering to keep up with growing complexity and the implementation of the latest technologies such as AI-based functions in automotive engineering. For this purpose, our developed software is first integrated on an HPC system and then tested on real vehicles.

Description

A key challenge in this context lies in the testing of the hardware and software components, as well as the quality of environmental data recording and integration. A real vehicle equipped with sensors will drive on the street, and the collected data will be used to create a digital twin. This involves numerous interesting research questions, including but not limited to:

  • Design of a sensor setup for comprehensive environmental data recording
  • System design and realization at both hardware and software levels
  • Your ideas: If you have any other ideas for research in this area, you are welcome to suggest your own topic.

Your Tasks

  • Familiarization with sensor technology and digital twin concepts
  • Research the problem (study state-of-the-art environmental recording methods)
  • Development of a novel solution approach
  • Realization of the approach on both hardware and software levels
  • Integrating your solution into the vehicle system

Requirements

  • You are currently studying Technical Design, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • High motivation and ability to work independently on your research topic, as well as contributing to our teamwork
  • Interest in environmental data recording and digital twin technology
  • Knowledge of sensor systems and data integration
  • Basic knowledge of Python
  • First experience with Linux
