The Chair of Computing in Civil and Building Engineering is part of the TUM School of Engineering and Design. Our teaching and research focus lies on computer-based development of engineering products, particularly on the planning and realization of built facilities using computational modeling and simulation tools. Research topics include geometric modeling of engineering products, methods of geometric analysis, methods of Building Information Modeling, modeling and simulation of construction processes, and the application of AI methods in engineering.
Description:
The announced position spans an interconnected set of research topics at the intersection of:
- Large Language Models (LLMs) and Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) for the Built Environment
- Generative AI and Vision–Language Models for Sustainable Built Environments
- Parametric Modelling and Computational Design for the Built Environment
- Visual Computing, 3D Scene Understanding, and Point Cloud Processing
Candidates are expected to contribute across these complementary areas, within the context of DFG and Industry funded research projects.
Candidate Profile:
Applicants should hold an above average Master's degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, Geomatics, or a closely related field. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in English (German is not required but is an asset), and a genuine interest in at least one of the listed research topics are expected.
Your tasks:
- Research, development and evaluation of AI/ML approaches in the designated areas
- Prototype development
- Literature review
- Publication and presentation of scientific results in international conferences and related journals
- Contribution to the teaching and research activities of the group
Requirements:
- Background in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
- Strong programming skills (Python)
- Good knowledge of AI frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow
Good to have:
- Scientific publications
- Familiarity with recent developments in deep learning, such as transformers, diffusion models, LLMs, VLMs
- Experience with C++, parametric/computational design tools, or BIM tools
