PhD position: Predictive Additive Manufacturing (m/f/d)

17.11.2025, Wissenschaftliches Personal

CCBE's interdisciplinary team is performing research in the broad field of computational methods for the built environment. Particular emphasis is placed on artificial intelligence in construction, building information modelling, point cloud capturing and processing, as well as construction robotics.

The PhD will be conducted in the frame of the Transregio "Additive Manufacturing (AM) in Construction" funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

In the subproject "Integrating digital design and additive manufacturing", new AI methods for predicting the outcome of AM printing processes under varying bounding conditions are developed. This involves the design of a cyber-physical system incl. a data management strategy, the processing of sensor data (laserscans, images, pressure, etc.), as well as the reactive control of robotic arms.

In order to apply for this position, the candidate should possess in-depth skills in programming and strong experience in computational geometric modelling. Expertise in the field of Additive Manufacturing, Construction Robotics, and/or Artificial Intelligence is very beneficial. Excellent English and intermediate German communication skills are necessary to complete the task.

Your tasks:

  • Research, development and evaluation of AI/ML methods for predictive Additive Manufacturing
  • Prototype development
  • Literature review
  • Publication and presentation of scientific results in international conferences and related journals
  • Contribution to the teaching and research activities of the group

Requirements:

  • Applicants should hold an MSc or Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
