Full-Time | TV-L E13 | Limited Contract (60 Months) | Starting 2026 | Are you passionate about making Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medicine transparent, trustworthy, and clinically relevant? Join the VIOLET Project: a pioneering research initiative to develop an explainable and interoperable methodological framework for AI in gynecological oncology.

Your tasks:

You will contribute to the development of explainable AI systems and the core methodological framework:

  • Contribute to the architecture and technical design of the VIOLET research prototype
  • Design and develop AI systems for guideline-compliant therapy recommendations using LLM, RAG and/or graph paradigms
  • Translate narrative clinical guidelines into formal ontologies and knowledge graphs
  • Design and develop modules for Medical Informatics Initiative (MII)/FHIR interoperability of the research prototype
  • Work closely with clinicians and data scientists to ensure the developed systems meet clinical needs and are validated against real-world scenarios
  • Publish research results (minimum three peer-reviewed publications) and present at international conferences

Your profile:

  • Excellent Master’s degree (Computer Science, Medical Informatics, or related field)
  • Final grade: at least magna cum laude (or equivalent), demonstrating research excellence
  • Documented expertise in developing and training machine learning models (ideally with a focus on LLM), high-performance computing, data management, and software architecture
  • Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch)
  • Deep interest in knowledge graphs, LLMs, and open science
  • A passion for tackling complex scientific challenges, a creative mindset for developing novel solutions, and a meticulous approach to research and validation
  • A strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with a keen interest in applying AI to solve complex challenges in personalized medicine
  • Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in German (at least B2 level) is required
