PhD position in physical chemistry

17.10.2025, Wissenschaftliches Personal

Do you bring experience in working with lasers? Are you interested in working on method development in femtosecond spectroscopy in an international, motivated team? Then come join the Dynamic Spectroscopy group at TUM!

About us
Our group ‘Dynamic Spectroscopy’ at the Department of Chemistry, School of Natural Sciences, TU Munich, specializes in time-resolved spectroscopy to tackle challenges in photophysics and photochemistry as well as in material sciences. (https://www.ch.nat.tum.de/dynspec/startseite/). We work with (time-resolved) fluorescence, excitation and absorption spectrometers. We have installed three separate amplified fs laser system as the primary light source for transient absorption and multidimensional spectroscopy.
Requirements
To be considered, candidates bring the following qualifications:

 A master’s degree in chemistry or physics
 Experience with ultrafast spectroscopy and non-linear optics
 Ability to work with and inspire students
 Ability to work in an international environment
 Ability to work with specialists from other fields, such as theoretical physics and synthetic chemistry, in an interdisciplinary project
Tasks
 Construct and maintain a novel experiment for multidimensional femtosecond fluorescence excitation spectroscopy (2D-FLEX, see https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0156297).
 Work with others to investigate molecular liquid state samples provided by other team members.
 Contribute to the teaching activities of the group.
We offer
 A fully DFG-financed PhD-position for three years on a 67% basis (27 h per week, E13 TV-L). Severely disabled applicants will be given preference if they are otherwise equally qualified.
 A vivid research environment at TU Munich, with close connections to an ongoing Collaborative Research
Centre (https://crc325.de/) and the cluster of excellence e-conversion (https://www.e-conversion.de/)
 The Technical University of Munich is seeking to increase the proportion of female employees. Hence, female scientists are expressly encouraged to apply.
Applications
Please send your applications to Jürgen Hauer via email (juergen.hauer@tum.de) until December 1st 2025.

The position is suitable for disabled persons. Disabled applicants will be given preference in case of generally equivalent suitability, aptitude and professional performance.
