At the Technical University of Munich (TUM), we offer a Science Coordinator position (m/f/d) to shape, coordinate and manage the newly established Climate Center, to be filled as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will be part of the Earth System Modelling group at TUM (https://www.asg.ed.tum.de/esm/home. The position is initially funded for 5 years, with the prospect of a permanent contract upon successful evaluation. Remuneration is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L), salary group E13.

About the Climate Center at TUM:
The Climate Center will conduct interdisciplinary climate and Earth system science to advance our understanding of the Earth system and to provide the scientific basis for sustainable Earth system stewardship. Bringing together internationally leading expertise in Climate Modelling, Earth Observation, and Machine Learning, research at the center will advance our modelling capacity of the Earth’s climate and ecosystems, and how they respond to anthropogenic climate and land-use change. Leveraging advanced data-driven and process-based modelling approaches, the center will improve our understanding of the Earth system, its resilience to anthropogenic forcing, and the impacts of climate change. As a service to society, the center aims to identify pathways avoiding dangerous levels of climatic change, with focus on extreme weather events and tipping points in the Earth’s climate and ecosystems. The Climate Center bundles climate science expertise at TUM and will play a key role in policy advise & climate science communication.

Key responsibilities:
The candidate will be expected to work on the following tasks

• Contribute to the development of the new Climate Center
• Science coordination and management of the Climate Center
• Support grant applications (e.g. DFG, Horizon), including proposal writing, budgeting, and preparation of graphical material
• Support management of ongoing and future scientific projects
• Scientific outreach and communication
• Web & graphics design
• Organization of conferences and workshops
• Establishing dialogues with stakeholders and the public in the context of climate change
• Teaching of 5h / week during the teaching term (flexible topics)

Requirements:
• Master’s / PhD degree in climate, environmental, or Earth sciences
• Experience in the management of scientific projects
• Experience in science communication and outreach
• Experience in web & graphics design
• Excellent communication skills
• High level of competence in oral and written English
• Intermediate level of competence in oral and written German
