About us The working group Learning Sciences and Educational Design Technologies is looking for a post-doctoral re-searcher (m/f/d), TV-L E 13, 75%, initially limited to the project duration with an ideal start in May 2025.
The working group Learning Sciences and Educational Design Technologies is situated within the Department of Educational Sciences of the School of Social Sciences and Technology at the Technical University of Munich, one of Europe’s top universities committed to excellence in research and teaching. The working group focuses on research at the intersection of learning sciences and design scholarship to advance understanding of how state-of-the-art creative design technologies can foster STEM learning for all students in school and out-of-school set-tings.
Responsibilities
The post-doctoral researcher will work on current scientific questions related to equitable STEM education and develop and conduct innovative educational interventions, prototypes, and research studies with learners in school and out-of-school settings. They will investigate educational design technologies to foster STEM learning with the aim of advancing understanding of learning and teaching within these contexts. The research assistant will have opportunities to publish research results across a range of outlets.
The work will be situated within the context of the Horizon Europe research project “Cultural Literacies’ Value in Europe” (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101132285).
The scope of work of the postdoctoral researcher will cover:
Mapping Outputs of arts-based education (WP3) by Identifying one case study in Germany covering two groups of young people involved in formal and informal education, evaluating the case study, identifying inputs and fi-nancial values, identifying non-monetized inputs (e.g., volunteer time) and creating an “impact” maps.
Evaluating outcomes and the effectiveness of arts-based education (WP4) through data gathering tools and training with ‘emotional cartography’ and participative mapping in Germany and co-creating maps of meaning through a variety of art forms.
Pedagogy practices in arts education (WP6 - Main focus) through co-creating national/transnational community of practices (COPs), co-creating an “agents of change” program, and facilitating cultural literacies across borders through a dynamic pedagogical intervention.
Qualifications
We seek to recruit a highly energetic and enthusiastic researcher, who is passionate about investigating interdisci-plinary scientific questions independently and collaboratively in a team. The position will make national and inter-national travel possible.
The research assistant will bring expertise in or appreciation of constructionist educational theory and two or more of the following areas: Arts-based learning/education, design-based learning, design-based research methods, qualitative research methods, mixed methods, out-of-school education, school-based education, maker-centered learning, making, digital literacies.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in learning sciences, educational sciences, literacy stud-ies, instructional technology, art-based education, or a related field with a strong interest in equitable STEM educa-tional research. In addition, candidates must have experience with or a passion for:
● Working on research and research projects.
● Working with qualitative research approaches.
● Exploring new technologies and their utility for education and creative expression.
● Very good writing, communication, and presentation skills.
● High proficiency in written and spoken English and German.
Our offer
We offer a 75% position as academic staff. The position will initially be limited to project duration. Payment will be based on qualifications up to pay grade E13 TV-L.
