Doctoral Research Associate - Chair of Strategic and International Management (m/f/d)

24.07.2026, Academic staff

The Chair of Strategic and International Management, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Hutzschenreuter, invites applications as Doctoral Research Associate (m/f/d)

In the future, our research addresses the development of systems for the strategy process in corporations and other organizations as well as systems for data analysis and simulations as part of this process. We create success-critical solutions for business practice. We cooperate not only with renowned scholars at home and abroad but also with well-established corporate partners. Research results are presented at international conferences and applied to business practice. Several current and former doctoral students have won competitive funding. Former doctoral candidates of Professor Hutzschenreuter are today executives at multinational enterprises, international strategy consultancies, and private equity firms, and work at renowned business schools, among others.

Your research project is an integral part of the Chair's research and leads to co-authored publications. You will work along a structured project plan with clear milestones for each semester. As part of the doctoral studies at TUM Graduate Center (Link) you will learn the methods of academic research and have access to opportunities for content-specific postgraduate courses.

Requirements
  • Completed studies with a focus on business and management (e.g. business administration or business informatics) or a relevant subject for the above-mentioned system development (e.g., informatics, engineering, philosophy, etc.)  with an outstanding degree (resp. graduation shortly)
  • Experience with self-responsible (partial) ownership of development projects, internships or other professional experiences
  • Profound knowledge in strategic management, finance and accounting, respectively in areas complementary for system development; programming skills are an advantage
  • Excellent analytical and language skills, team spirit, and passion for system development, and scientific work
  • Excellent proficiency in German and English
What we offer

Our doctoral study process (see www.msl.mgt.tum.de/simanagement) has a clear structure that ensures doctoral candidates can graduate within 3 years. Candidates may pursue either an internal doctorate (employed by TUM, with a salary at the TV-L E13 level) or an external doctorate, provided they meet the requirements outlined in the TUM guidelines. As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, TUM explicitly encourages applications from women and all others who would bring additional dimensions of diversity to the university's research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to candidates with disabilities who have essentially the same qualifications.
