Ph.D. position (f/m/d) in "Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) solubility enhancement via hydrotropy"

01.03.2025, Wissenschaftliches Personal

The Biothermodynamics group at TUM School of Life Sciences is looking for a motivated Ph.D. student interested in solubility phenomena and their principles, and their application for improving the solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The project is in cooperation with Prof. Mele’s group at Politecnico di Milano.

Your tasks include investigating the solubilization mechanisms of APIs in hydrotropic systems through thermodynamic modeling and scattering techniques, and developing a systematic framework for the selection of hydrotropes for target APIs.

Your profile
• M.Sc. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related disciplines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of the German language is desirable.
• Enthusiasm to travel and conduct research abroad.
• Familiarity with statistical thermodynamics and/or supramolecular chemistry is desirable.
• Eagerness to work in an interdisciplinary and intercultural team.
• Interest in participating in teaching and supporting undergraduate students.
• Ability to work autonomously to reach the project goals and bring new ideas.

We offer
• Working at TUM, one of the most renowned universities worldwide.

• Research stay at Politecnico di Milano of (at least) three months.
• Mobility funds up to 4000 € for travel and living costs abroad, and other 5000 € for trips including prolonged stays abroad, conferences, research visits, etc.
• Membership in International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE)
• TUM's graduate school training opportunities for career development, continued education, and life-long learning.
• As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, TUM explicitly encourages applications from women and others who would bring additional diversity to the university's research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications.

Application
Applications in English or German should include the following:
• A one-page motivation letter.
• Curriculum vitae, including details of the scientific career with a list of publications (if applicable).
