The professorship “Big Geospatial Data Management“ is looking for academic staff (multiple position for different career levels) to support our research in the area of Big Geospatial Data and Artificial Intelligence, starting as soon as possible.
Your responsibilities
At the professorship “Big Geospatial Data Management”, we deal with research in computer science, especially in the areas of hardware, edge computing, AI, and big data and their applications to geodata. Application domain include Remote Sensing and Earth Observation, Geospatial Information Science (GIScience), and photogrammetry. Since 2020, the group has grown to 10 PhD students and collaborates in research with a variety of national and international partners. In addition, we contribute to degree programs in geodesy and geoinformatics, computer science, and aerospace (“Bachelor Aerospace”). In addition to data-centric topics (databases, data management, algorithms, data structures), we conduct research in this context in particular on artificial intelligence for mobile systems (drones, satellites, robotics, embedded systems) and orientation in space (visual positioning, 3D point clouds, digital twin, computer vision, indoor navigation). Your activities will include the acquisition and implementation of interesting research projects in the outlined subject area with the possibility of a doctorate or habilitation (qualification for an own scientific career) and participation in the supervision of university teaching. Your qualifications: You hold a master degree in mathematics, computer science, physics, geodesy or a comparable qualification. For a postdoctoral position with the possibility of a habilitation, you should also have a completed doctorate in a relevant subject area. You are confident in using programming languages, especially Python, and are interested in familiarizing yourself with complex environments. You are interested in conducting independent research and pursuing a doctorate or your own academic career as a postdoctoral researcher. You have good communication and organizational skills, reliable, and enjoy working with other people (including Bachelor and Master students, colleagues, PhD students, administration, project partners, ...). In addition, we expect very good written and spoken English skills.
Our offer
We offer several full-time positions (TVL-E13, 100%) as academic staff with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree or to develop your own academic career after your doctorate (postdoc / habilitation). Our professorship has a strong international focus and our staff travel to relevant conferences worldwide. The positions vary in duration, but are financed in such a way that the next qualification goal (doctorate, habilitation) can typically be achieved during employment with us. Employment is remunerated in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Federal States (TV-L).
