Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d) in “Simulation-based optimization of feed spacer meshes for filtration”

26.02.2025, Wissenschaftliches Personal

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d) with a PhD in Simulation Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

About us
As a globally renowned institute in the field of brewing, beverage, and grain technology, we aim to always be at the forefront of scientific research. The development, implementation, and provision of innovative, forward-looking technologies and concepts in these fields are essential core aspects of our work. We believe that excellent research and lateral thinking will create innovative ideas and solutions for tomorrow's industry.

Integrated into the Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology is the working group BioPAT and Digitalization, which deals with issues from the fields of PAT technologies, bioprocess analysis, simulation, chemometrics, control engineering, artificial intelligence, soft sensors, and process sensors. We are always looking for new technologies and new methods to monitor and optimize products and processes in real-time.

Why join us
Creative freedom – opportunities for knowledge growth – industry connections – dynamic team

Your tasks
• Scientific research and project management
• Development of experimental setups and simulations
• Publication of results in journals and at conferences
• Collaboration in the teaching activities of the chair
• Collaboration in the acquisition of third-party funding

Research topic
In this research project, the optimization of feed spacer design aims to reduce biofouling in membrane modules, enhancing cleaning efficiency and overall process performance. The role involves setting up experimental models using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze fluid flow and deposition patterns. The data will train a physics-informed neural network (PINN) for fast, precise predictions of pressure, density, and velocity fields. The project also includes producing feed spacer prototypes through 3D printing and conducting experimental evaluations of the optimized designs.

Applicant’s profile
• You are enthusiastic about Computational Fluid Dynamics
• Ability and interest in analytical, creative, and interdisciplinary thinking
• High level of initiative and commitment
• Ability to work in a team and communication skills
• Good knowledge of Ansys Fluent
• Experience with deep learning methods and packages
• Completed PhD degree
