Ph.D. Student / Junior Researcher Economics of Technology in Agriculture and Food Supply

Tasks

The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research in economics of technology and/or production and resource economics leading to a competitive PhD degree and internationally peer-reviewed publications. The interdisciplinary research will predominantly focus on the role of new technology in improving sustainability outcomes in agriculture and food supply, in particular with respect to occupational health and working conditions in agricultural production and supply. This includes participation in the newly established Horizon Europe project “AGRO-WELL”, a large collaborative project covering about 10 different European stakeholders (i.e., universities, institutes and companies). He/she will receive high quality supervision from the chair’s senior academic staff and might be involved in teaching at under/postgraduate level as well as funding acquisition and outreach, if desired. International networking and collaborations are regarded as an integral part of the PhD research experience and are explicitly encouraged. The PhD process will be accompanied by integration into TUM’s School of Life Sciences and/or School of Management and participation in the related Graduate School. 


Qualifications

The applicant should possess:

  • an excellent or very-good university degree in economics, agricultural sciences with a focus in economics and/or digital technologies / smart solutions etc., or related disciplines
  • strong analytical and methodological skills with a focus on quantitative data analysis (e.g., data analysis, statistics, machine learning)
  • interest in applied economic problems (e.g., natural resources, food system, bio- and circular economic issues, technology and innovation)
  • a high motivation and the ability to work independently with a strong team orientation
  • excellent spoken and written English and the will to acquire a certain working language of German.
