PhD/Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)

You want to develop robotic systems that not just work in the lab but are also released into the wild? You are excited to explore new fields and work in a stimulating research environment?

We are looking for an outstanding and highly motivated doctoral or postdoctoral (i.e., recently, or soon-to-be PhD graduate) researcher to join our Environmental Robotics team at MIRMI under the supervision of Prof. Sami Haddadin.

Your work will extend our existing work on mobile robotic systems for environmental monitoring and protection.

You are expected to develop your own scientific ideas/concepts within the framework of the research group objectives. We will provide all guidance and support for writing papers and will submit to our focus conferences IEEE ICRA & IROS, and corresponding journals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of algorithms for safe and reliable underwater manipulation and navigation.
  • Development of a framework for underwater manipulation and autonomous navigation.
  • Conceiving experimental setups for real-time field tests of autonomous robots.
  • Outdoor missions at Bavarian lakes and international offshore locations.
  • Teaching activities at the Master's and/or Bachelor’s level courses.
  • Supervision of Master and Bachelor students.

Your Skills:

  • M.Sc. or PhD. with background in robotics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge in the area of mobile manipulation and control of autonomous vehicles.
  • Hands-on experience with developing autonomous and mobile robotic systems, working with both their hardware and software.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ or python, and proficiency in ROS.
  • Very good command of the English language (the German language is a plus).
  • Strong analytical skill, pro-active interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • High motivation and willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team.
