Postdoctoral Scientist (m/f/d) in the Autonomous Vehicle Lab

24.08.2023, Wissenschaftliches Personal

You want to influence future technologies with your own ideas? You want to work in a team on the challenges of autonomous driving and bring autonomous driving to the road? Then this position is just right for you!

About us
In the Autonomous Vehicle Lab, we develop the vehicle of the future with intelligent algorithms and methods. We are involved in numerous projects in which artificial intelligence methods for autonomous vehicles are being investigated and further developed. Our software for autonomous vehicles is used in our flagship projects such as the Indy Autonomous Challenge or EDGAR.
Thereby, we research current problem fields in the areas of perception, planning, control, safety and evaluation. Our goal is always to develop the optimal overall software and to be able to use all algorithms in the real vehicle. By taking a particular look at complex scenarios, such as driving dynamic limits, unstructured environments or problems from ethics, we extend the state of the art in science. We not only publish our research results at numerous conferences and in journals, but we also open source our developed software on Github.

Requierments
As part of the AV Lab, you have the chance to help shape the future of autonomous driving. You will get the chance to take responsibility in our motivated team of PhD students and undergraduates and to contribute your ideas. In addition, you can further expand your network with partners from science and industry through our lighthouse projects. In your role as a post-doc, you will combine team- and institute-oriented tasks with in-depth scientific work. Based on your scientific experience, we would like to nominate you for the leadership of a team in the AV Lab. Your professional development is very important to us and will be actively promoted.
You are expected to actively shape and develop the AV Lab. This includes establishing and supporting collaborations with partners from science and industry. In addition, you will participate in the university self-management and the structural tasks of the institute. Your perspective team AV - Evaluation focuses on the following research topics:

  • Development of simulation frameworks for software modules up to the complete software as a framework for evaluation and validation in the fields of sensor simulation, agent simulation and vehicle dynamics and the associated generation of scenarios
  • Methods for scenario-based virtual and real testing of modules and overall software and their evaluation using appropriate metrics
  • Concepts and analysis of optimal overall software architecture and orchestration with respect to latency and functionality
In addition to the role as team leader, you will also have a leading role in our flagship projects, where you will be able to directly incorporate the research results and contribute to the project organization.
