PhD position (f/m/d): AI-based analysis of construction drawings to automate project data management in complex construction projects (DrawOn)

CMS’s inter-disciplinary team is performing research in the broad field of computational methods for the built environment. Particular emphasis is placed on building information modelling, digital drawings, point cloud capturing and processing as well as knowledge representation and inference.
In the research project DrawOn, new technologies for analyzing 2D digital drawings and reconstructing 3D building models will be developed. The goal of this project is to develop a methodology for constructing 3D models Based on diverse details provided in the different kinds of 2D drawing views. Developing such a methodology requires the identification of drawing types, their content, and also the relationships between the individual objects.
To apply for this position, the candidate should possess in-depth skills in programming and hands-on training and evaluating machine-learning models. Expertise in in the field of Building Information Modelling and geometric modelling is greatly beneficial. Excellent English and the willingness to learn the German language are necessary to complete the task.
