PhD Scholarship: AI-enabled code compliance checking in early building design (AI-CHECK)

27.04.2021, Wissenschaftliches Personal

CMS’s inter-disciplinary team is performing research in the broad field of computational methods for the built environment. Particular emphasis is placed on building information modelling, point cloud capturing and processing as well as knowledge representation and inference.

In the research project AI-CHECK, new technologies for checking and optimizing building designs will be developed. The goal of this project is to develop a methodology for automatically checking building designs against regulations, and then provide reasoning about any detected failures, which can assist a systematic exploration of the design space for providing applicable solutions. Providing applicable solutions involves optimizing the design space taking into account the distance to the currently failing solution. Developing such a methodology requires a formalization of the design space and the distance between models as an objective function.

To apply for this position, the candidate should possess in-depth skills in programming and hands-on training and evaluating machine-learning models. Expertise in in the field of Building Information Modelling and geometric modelling is greatly beneficial. Excellent English and the willingness to learn the German language are necessary to complete the task. If you hold a diploma or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, possess a sound knowledge of applied informatics and want to join a highly motivated research group, please submit your application including all relevant documents (curriculum vitae, copies of transcripts and letters of recommendation, etc.) to the email address provided below.

Granting equal opportunities is part of our personnel policy. TUM encourages applications from qualified female candidates. Handicapped applicants will be given preference in the case of equal qualifications.
