Ph. D. position in ultrafast spectroscopy/microspectroscopy

The group for “Dynamic Spectroscopies“ at the TUM Department of Chemistry offers a Ph.D. student position in “Multi-Photon Absorption and Dynamics in Crystalline Coordination Networks”. Funding is secured for three years, while the initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13 2/3). Financing is available starting February 1st 2020.

Tasks The successful candidate is expected to design and construct a novel experimental layout for two-photon excitation spectroscopy employing a femtosecond oscillator. Materials and supervision will be provided. The main aims of the project are to (i) measure two-photon absorption properties of organic molecules (ii) characterize two-photon properties of Crystalline Coordination Networks (CCNs) including the molecules described in the previous point (iii) create functional images of the CCNs by two-photon excitation spectroscopy. These findings will lead to new design suggestions for collaboration partners in inorganic chemistry.

Qualifications A successful applicant will bring • An excellent Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or physics or related disciplines • The ability to communicate clearly with co-workers in adjacent fields such as inorganic synthetic chemistry • Strong analytical and programming skills to be applied in data analysis and model building/testing • A solid background in ultrafast optics, optics, physical chemistry, spectroscopy and microscopy • Fluency in spoken and written English • The ability to work both independently and as part of a motivated team of researchers • An interest in teaching, as required for every PhD student in the research group • The general curiosity needed to work on an interdisciplinary project
