Postdoctoral position in "Molecular regulation of type 2 immune responses"

23.07.2019, Wissenschaftliches Personal

At the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Helmholtz Center Munich (HMGU) you will find a scientifically stimulating international environment. Together with renowned scientists and supported by an excellent infrastructure you make an important contribution of the improvement of people’s quality of life. The Center of Allergy & Environment (ZAUM) is a hybrid institute of TUM and HMGU. Our research is focused on the understanding of mechanisms involved in the development of allergies and allergen tolerance in the context of genetic predisposition, immune system and environmental factors. We conduct applied, clinical and basic research with the aim to understand the mechanisms of allergic diseases, to assess risks for the onset of allergy as well as to develop novel strategies for prevention und therapy. To contibute our research projects, we are looking for highly motivated and skilled candidates for a

Postdoctoral position in "Molecular regulation of type 2 immune responses"

Job description: The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the Helmholtz Young Investigator group "Innate Immunomodulation". The team is exploring molecular mechanisms that control type 2 immune responses in the context of chronic type 2 inflammation (e.g. allergy and asthma) as well as during infection with helminth parasites. The ideal candidate will be capable of coordinating a multifaceted research program and of working both independently and collaboratively in a team. The successful applicant will explore the mechanisms by which helminth proteins regulate type 2 immune responses in the context of allergy and helminth infection. The project will include the investigation of metabolic and epigenetic pathways that control type 2 inflammation in humans and in experimental mouse models. An ideal applicant must have solid experience with state-of the art techniques in the study of inflammation, with emphasis on the molecular, histological and immunological analysis of lung and/ or gut tissue and leukocytes. Experience in mouse models of inflammation is a plus. Ideally, the candidate should have expertise in breeding and genotyping of mice, ELISA and flow cytometry. Additional highly desired skills include expertise in epigenetics and imaging.

Your qualifications: • Strong motivation, scientific curiosity and commitment to scientific excellence • PhD in life sciences or related disciplines, background in immunology and strong interest in medical / biological questions • Strong publication record with evidence of independence (at least one first-author publication in an international journal), experience with presenting data at conferences • Experience in mammalian cell culture • Experience with mouse models and analysis of molecular pathways of inflammation; Knowledge of mouse biology, handling and drug-administration routes is a plus • Knowledge and high interest in cellular regulatory mechanisms, metabolism, epigenetics and inflammation • Interest in discussing and exploring potential project ideas with collaboration partners • Team player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment • Excellent command of the English language
