fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems and services with headquarters in Munich. Our institute, funded by the Free State of Bavaria, is part of Bavaria’s digitalization initiative, collaborates on research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. Our research focuses on state of the art methods, techniques and tools of software development, und drives the development of the artificial intelligence of tomorrow. fortiss has the legal structure of a non-profit limited liability company (GmbH). Its shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (as majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research. The mission of the Human-centered Engineering (HCE) at fortiss is to work out the foundations of usability for software engineering and to develop intelligent user interfaces. By utilizing machine learning techniques, our focus lies on the research into user-, domain- and task-models to ensure human-machine-interaction as natural and as robust as possible. Cognitive interaction is improved by integrating multimodal elements.

Research Staff (m/f) – Machine Learning for User Modeling and User-adaptive Interaction

Your responsibilities are:
• Developing machine learning architecture for user modeling and user-adaptive interaction
• Analyzing the state of the art and current research results
• Training based on data and creating models independent of domains used
• Organizing workshops for both internal and external partners
• Publication at top conferences and journals in the field of Intelligent User Interface, Human-Computer-Interaction, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning

What we expert:
• An outstanding university degree (M.Sc. or higher) in Computer Science or related technical disciplines
• Excellent knowledge of machine learning (algorithms and approaches) and human-computer-interaction (methodologies and technologies)
• Experience and practical proficiency with programming languages (e.g. Java, Eclipse, Git, Matlab)
• Analytical thinking as well as independent and structured work
• Self-initiative, commitment, and enthusiasm for new tasks
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Very good knowledge of English or German in both spoken and written
