Research Associate (m/f/d) in Applied AI and Robotics

The Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management (iwb) at the Technical University of Munich is one of the leading production technology institutes in Germany. We are doing research in the field of production man-agement and logistics, machine tools, assembly technology and robotics, sustainable production, battery produc-tion, as well as laser technology. Within these fields, the research associate (m/f/d) is engaged in research, teaching, and industrial transfer with the goal of obtaining a doctoral degree.

For our Assembly Technology and Robotics department, we are looking for a research associate for the development of flexible robot applications. As part of the research project, AI models for processing sensor data are trained on the basis of synthetic data in order to equip robotic systems with perception capabilities and automate complex production tasks. The developed solution will be tested by setting up a prototype robot cell at our institute.

Requirements

  • Above-average degree in mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, automation technology, mechatronics, or related disciplines
  • Interest in production technology
  • Enthusiasm for the supervision and programming of technical systems
  • Determination and ability to work independently
  • Creativity and joy of experimentation
  • Team and communication skills
  • Excellent English language skills, basics of the German language

Responsibilities

  • Research in machine vision and visual control of robots
  • Use of the latest methods of software development and of artificial intelligence
  • Independently working on research and industrial projects
  • Guiding and supporting students in their study projects
  • Teaching in the field of production technology
