Dear Students,
Let's begin with the good news: not content with being awarded €1 million for outstanding teaching practice in the Exzellente Lehre competition organized by the Foundation for German Science (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft) and the Conference of Cultural Ministers (Kultusminister-Konferenz:) and € 500,000 in the Bologna – The Future of Academic Teaching initiative launched jointly by the Volkswagen and Mercator Foundations, TUM has now been named as one of the beneficiaries in the Programm des Bundes und der Länder für bessere Studienbedingungen und mehr Qualität in der Lehre funding program aimed at enhancing the quality of degree courses and raising tuition standards. A total of about €17 million is to be invested in the "TUM: Agenda Lehre" concept spread over a period of 5 years, and you all stand to gain directly from a wide range of individual measures. We will report in more detail in the next issue of the TUMstudinews.
But this issue also focuses on improving tuition standards – and on money matters: what exactly happens with the tuition fees – amounting, after all, to €8 million in the summer semester 2011? Read on to find out who the money goes to and what it is used for.
