Position Summary: We are pleased to announce a PostDoc position available for a researcher focusing on Land-Use, Transportation or Environmental-Impact Modeling. The ideal candidate has a background in computer modeling and brings experience with a programming or scripting language. Primary Responsibility: The successful applicant will work with the newly established research group on Modeling Spatial Mobility in the Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering at the Technische Universität München. The main task is to develop an integrated land-use/ transportation/environmental-impact model for the Munich Metropolitan Area. The successful applicant is expected to lead selected tasks of model development and implementation. In addition to research, the successful applicant will also be involved in publishing, teaching and writing research proposals. Teaching topics will be selected in coordination with the applicant’s interests and the teaching needs of the Transportation Systems M.Sc. Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree as well as prior experience in land-use, transportation or environmental-impact modeling are expected. Experience with a programming or scripting language is important. The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. About us: Modeling Spatial Mobility is a new research group at the Technische Universität München with the vision to further develop mathematical models that relate to mobility, including transportation, land-use and environmental impacts. Such models shall help to expand our knowledge on the impacts of infrastructure investments, planning policies, behavioral changes as well as global economic or environmental trends. The position can be filled as soon as possible and is initially funded until October 2017. We are offering excellent working conditions in a highly international research environment. Within the project we are looking at the earliest date possible for an experienced Senior Software architect / Post-Doc in Robotics. Key responsibilities: • Carrying out research activities in the field of software engineering for robotics • Carrying out project related work including work package related tasks and reporting • Dissemination of project results in leading journals and conference in the robotics community • Active involvement in the open call management to ensure the most performant experiments in order to achieve better tools, better (functional) software, and better software models within RobMoSys • Active involvement in proposal management (i.e., highlighting potential opportunities, helping to form consortia and assistance in proposal writing) Requirements: • Ph.D. or similar experience in a subject which is relevant to the direction of the project such as robotics, autonomous systems, computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related field • Experience in developing robotics software, e.g., kinematics/dynamics, control of actuators/sensors, distributed systems • Provable proficiency in C, C++ and experience in at least another programming language (eg. python, java) • Hands-on experience in robotics middlewares, e.g. ROS, YARP, Orocos • Experience in either 1) knowledge representation and reasoning, e.g. description logics, owl, prolog, semantic web, or 2) model driven engineering, eg.
