HPC Cluster implementation with desktop PCs for numerical simulations, e.g. Finite Element Analysis
We are seeking a motivated (group of) student assistant(s) to implement a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster at the Chair of Metal Forming and Casting. The cluster will be built using a network of desktop PCs running Linux, designed to handle numerical simulations with software such as LS-DYNA and Abaqus.
The role involves:
- Configuring and networking desktop PCs into an HPC cluster.
- Setting up and optimizing a job queuing system (e.g., Slurm) for efficient task scheduling.
- Integrating user-friendly interfaces for task submission and result retrieval.
- Ensuring the cluster's performance meets the computational demands of advanced simulations.
Candidates should have a basic understanding of Linux operating systems, networking, programming, and numerical simulation tools. Familiarity with HPC environments or scripting languages is a plus. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience in computing infrastructure within a collaborative academic setting.
