TUMSpotlight: The TUM: Young Academy – ab ingenio ad excellentiam

From talent to excellence – it is under this motto that the TUM: Young Academy promotes outstanding, committed students and young TUM alumni. This program is aimed at everyone who is inquisitive, who wants to get ahead and venture beyond the boundaries of his/her course of studies. And who wishes to enter into discussions revolving around social, economic and political problems with other students of their generation and beyond. The interdisciplinary project is the cornerstone of the TUM: Young Academy. It provides a platform to tackle problems head-on and to independently develop solutions.

Furthermore there are workshops on project management, rhetoric, writing scientific articles, intercultural skills as well as leadership and motivation. Arrangements are also made for visiting companies, cultural evenings such as going to the opera, with introductory events and informal get-togethers at the fireside to talk about topics of current interest.

Anybody who is recommended by the Dean of the faculty concerned can apply for the program. The deadline for nominations for the new round is May 7, 2012.

The program usually lasts for five years. A typical membership commences in the third year (4th semester) of the Bachelor’s degree course and includes both years of the Master’s degree course as well as the first two years as a young alumnus following the Master’s graduation.
