Double Graduate Cohort 2011 – TUM is well prepared

TUM is well equipped to deal with the growing number of students from the imminent "double graduate cohort." Student-oriented operations will continue at their usual high level, and there will be no significant impairment to study conditions. In this regard, TUM has built up massive resources.

On the Garching Campus, two new interim lecture halls (offering 300 and 450 seats respectively) are being built next to the mathematics and computer science buildings. Daily construction progress can be followed online via Webcam. In addition, TUM is renting over 8,000 m2 of floor space, some at the Business Campus Garching-Hochbrück and some in Karlstraße in downtown Munich.

  • About 300 additional staff members, including approx. 60 new professors, will ensure that all students receive steadily intensive support.
  • The Mensa Cafeteria in Garching opened an additional service counter in October 2011. The campus pub, CampusCneipe, now offers an additional 90 seats. A few snack bars on the research campus will supplement the food supply network.
  • On the Weihenstephan Campus, larger lectures will be recorded and made accessible on the Internet. In the computer science and economic faculties, these measures are already being successfully practiced. Early Study Start during the Summer Semester.

Early Study Start during the Summer Semester

  • For 14 subjects, TUM will provide an "accelerated" program starting May 2011: Under the motto "TUM twoinone," 1,400 graduates from the last G9 group will be able to study the content of the first two semesters up until September and then – pending adequate performance – directly join the third, regular semester in the winter.
  • For the last G9 group, TUM will allow some Bachelor degree programs to first begin in the summer semester, e.g., for electrical engineering, computer science, and information systems. Thus, in cooperation with the TUM twoinone program, more than half (approx. 1,750) of the expected additional 2,500 freshmen can begin their studies as early as May. In this way, the onslaught of new students for the Winter Semester 2011/12 will be significantly reduced.
